The primary function of Rescue 1 is to provide the communities within the region with expanded service beyond fire suppression and prevention. Rescue 1 duties include a wide range of services that requires specialized equipment and technical training.

 

The crew  of Rescue 1  consists of 1 Officer and 3 firefighters that are trained in several NFPA disciplines. These personnel are specialists familiar with the equipment and operational disciplines needed in unique situations.

 

This specialized team requires a substantial amount of support. This support is provided by the Task Force.  The Task Force is cross-trained with the Rescue Company, providing for critical back-up and redundancy. The Task Force consists of 5 units and is a mixture of Squad and Ladder Companies.

 

Rescue 1 members are trained to the Operation and Technician levels in the following disciplines:

 Structural collapse

* Recognize the collapse hazards

* Search procedures intended to locate victims trapped  inside and beneath collapse debris

* Accessing victims trapped inside and beneath collapse debris

* Extrication operations involving packing and removing trapped victim within and beneath collapse debris

* Stabilizing the structures

 

Rope Rescue

* Selection and construction of rope-based mechanical advantage systems

* Ascending and descending operations

* High and low angle operations

* Safe use and limitations of rope rescues

 

Confined Space

* Recognizing and sizing-up a potential confined space incident

* Knowing the limitations of confined space rescue personnel

* Monitoring the atmosphere in a confined space

* Identify the duties of rescue personnel

* Planning and implementing a confined space rescue operation

* Use of rope rescue lowering and raising systems

 

 

NORTH HUDSON REGIONAL FIRE & RESCUE
